Vision of Community
Today after soccer I drove past an a very very small apartment complex. It’s one building with about 10 apartments in it. They were having a huge Father’s Day gathering outside, judging from the Happy Father’s Day balloons tied to the table. I might be totally wrong but I’m pretty sure it was the whole community from that one apartment building because there were all different kinds of people. It seemed like an awesome community to be a part of.
And that picture kind of gave me a vision of what I want to do in the future. I don’t want that fancy house. I don’t want that fancy car. I don’t need those things. I want to settle down in a community where everything might not be perfect and people are all different kinds of people with all different kinds of brokenness. And on special days like Father’s day, I want to host open BBQs for the community to just come outside and join in. I hope my wife and I can just go door to door to each apartment and greet people and tell them to join us for the BBQ. Especially to those families that can’t afford to celebrate or don’t have reasons to celebrate, I just want all families to come together and just share a meal, a grace, a day together.
Gives me chills thinking about it!
